abstract

introduction. in order to educate any subject, needs and lack of knowledge must be recognized. family planning is an essential subject for instructing to all university students, therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine educational needs of medical student about emergency contraception ( ec ). methods. this descriptive study was performed on 102 female nursing midwifery, health, and paramedical students of shahid sadoughi university who recently passed family planning course . data was collected by questionnaire and analyzed by spss program, x2, spearman and pearson tests. results. lack of knowledge about ec efficacy was 93.1%, ec mechanism 91.2% , ec follow up 82.4 %, ec side effects 77.5%, ec methods 75.2%, ec number use/year 69.7%, and determination of unprotected coitus was 63.7% per year. in addition there was significant statistical relationship between educational needs and degree of graduation ( p = 0.004) and the course of study ( p = 0.003)
